RCD protection Residual current device

Having your circuits RCD protected drastically minimizes the risk of electric shock. As a rule of thumb all electrical circuits should be RCD protected unless the installer has made a judgement for instance fire alarms, and these circuits should be tested, maintained and logged at more regular intervals

Testing Intervals

Domestic

Every 5 years / change of tenancy. New builds can sometimes have a 10 year intervals until there first test and inspection from once its first built. The testing intervals will be determined by the inspector/tester as test readings may not be perfect. You will find the test sticker on the fuse board, along with a date of when it was lasted tested and when the next test is due.

Commercial

Every 3 years / change of tenancy / change of use. The testing intervals will be determined by the inspector/tester as test reading may not be perfect. You will find the test sticker on the fuse board, along with a date of when it was lasted tested and when the next test is due.

Recessed lighting being fire-rated

Recessed light fittings must have a minimum 90-minute fire-rated if the is an inhabitable room above. This issue can also be overcome with the use of fire hoods.

IP ratings for certain zones

Bathroom light fittings should have an IP rating of at least IP44. Most shower lights have an IP rating of IP65. You should not be able to touch the light bulb in a bathroom fitting.

Power Cuts

Most of the United Kingdom is run on a 3 phase supply. If there is a power cut in your area it may only effect 1 in 3 houses.
